Half-Day Tour Itineraries

Kota Kinabalu City Tour - 3 hrs

Kota Kinabalu is the gateway to the Land Below the Wind and the state capital of Sabah. At 0900 hrs or 1400, pick up at the hotel and proceed with a guided tour around this fascinating city. Enjoy a bird’s eye view of the city and its magnificent waterfront setting from Signal Hill. Shop at the Filipino Market where a wide variety of fine handicrafts are offered. Visit the 32-storey Tun Mustapha Building with its remarkable column of free floors. Visit the colourful Poh Toh Tse Buddhist Temple then view one of the finest examples of modern Islamic architecture in Malaysia, the Sabah State Mosque. Finally, discover more about the rich heritage of Sabah at the State Museum.

Monsopiad Cultural Village - 4 hrs

At 0830hrs or 1330hrs depart from the city hotel for Monsopiad Cultural Village, the only cultural village in Sabah dedicated to the memory of the legendary warrior Monsopiad. It is run by his direct descendants , and so vivid are their stories that one can feel the presence of the long-gone warrior. 

Upon arrival, a welcome drink (local rice wine) is served. Then take a guided tour to visit the Tangkob or Granary where the padi is housed and Monsopiad’s Main House, which is dedicated to the life and times of Monsopiad and his descendants. On display are ceramic jars, padi grinders, bamboo items as well as the costume of Bobohizan Inai Bianti, direct descendant of Monsopiad and very senior high priestess. Other interesting exhibits include the massive monolith which invokes a dozen legends, the traditional restaurant and of course Siou Do Mohoing, or the House of Skulls, where all of Monsopiad’s 42 ‘trophies’  hang from the rafters.

Mari Mari Cultural Village - 5 hrs

At 0900, 1400 hrs or 1700 hrs pick up from hotel and proceed to Inanam for Mari-Mari Cultural Village. Upon arrival, you will be greeted as preparation for your time-travelling into prehistoric Borneo; briefing on the Village Rules is a must before you enter. You will be greeted by the Chief and experience a traditional Welcoming Ceremony, then walk across the suspension bridge to enter the village. Mari-Mari Cultural Village represents five distinct ethnic froups; Dusun, Rungus, Murut, Bajau and Lundayeh. Every ethnic group has their own exotic stories and traditional dances. Lunch or Dinner will be served inside Mari-Mari itself. After your meal, it is time to bid farewell to the villagers and depart into the 21st century, as we transfer you back to your hotel.

Kinabalu Cultural Night - 3 hrs

At 1800 hrs pick up from your city hotel and drive to Signal Hill for a view of Kota Kinabalu at dusk. Then visit the night market where you can see a wide variety of local produce, handicrafts etc., and try out your bargaining skill. At 1915 hrs proceed to Kampung Nelayan Seafood Restaurant for dinner with Sabah Cultural Show. While enjoying the sumptuous dinner, you will be entertained with cultural dances such as Sumazau, Mengilok, Magunatip, Joget, Zapin and other Malaysian dances.  The male dancers wear their traditional warrior costumes and display their skill with the blow-pipe while the women dance gracefully to the rhythm of the gongs. You will be invited take part in the traditional bamboo dance.

Lok Kawi Wildlife Park - 4 hrs

At 0900 hrs depart from your city hotel and drive for about 30 minutes to Lok Kawi Wildlife Park. Get a map from the entrance counter and walk around on your own. You will have the chance to see rhinos, mouse deer, barking deer, civets, binturongs (bear cats), pygmy elephants, clouded leopards, Malayan tigers, orangutans, proboscis monkeys and more). Visit the Botanical Garden where you can see pitcher plants, wild ginger, ferns, medicinal plants, rubber trees, etc. Around noon time, transfer back to your city hotel.

Kota Belud Sunday Market - 4 hrs

At 0830 hrs pick up from hotel. Drive to Kota Belud will take about 1 hour and 15 minutes, passing by rice fields, traditional villages and spectacular scenery along the way. Kota Belud is the cultural heartland of the Bajau, an indigenous group renowned as horsemen and popularly known as the “Cowboys of the East”.  Every Sunday, the Bajau bring out their local produce and handicrafts to be sold in the large open-air market. The market is also a favourite meeting point for the locals, providing wonderful photo opportunities. Around noon time, transfer back to your city hotel.

Crocodile Farm & Tuaran Temple - 4 hrs

At 0830 hrs, depart your city hotel and drive 45 minutes to Tuaran Town and its famous suspension bridge. Proceed to Tuaran Crocodile Farm to see over 1,000 live crocodiles of various species. Witness the dramatic crocodile feeding, then visit the Crocodile Theatre for the daily Crocodile Performing Show. You can take close-up pictures of real-life crocodiles or buy a variety of high quality crocodile skin products at the farm. A variety of birds and other exotic animals are also on display at the farm. Later, visit the Rungus Longhouse to witness the cultural dance show then visit Yu Huang Temple. This historic and traditional Chinese temple has a pagoda offering spectacular views of Tuaran and the surrounding countryside. Thereafter, transfer back to your hotel.

Mengkabong Sea Gypsy & Firefly River Cruise - 6 hrs

At 1430 hrs, depart your city hotel for Mengkabong River (30-45mins approx.). After high tea by the riverside, proceed for the educational Mangrove River Cruise. Learn all about the Sea Gypsy lifestyle and take part in crab catching activities. Visit the oyster and mussel farm and enjoy some recreational  fishing before heading to the mouth of the river to enjoy the spectacular sunset scenery. After dark, continue for the Firefly River Cruise to observe these remarkable luminous insects in their thousands amidst the mangroves. Enjoy a sumptuous seafood dinner before transfer back to your hotel. Note: Dinner will be at a seafood restaurant in Kota Kinabalu if the tour falls on Monday.

North Borneo Steam Train - 5 hrs

Depart from city hotel at 0900 hrs and proceed to Tanjung Aru Raillway Station. The North Borneo Railway runs two weekly return departures (Wednesday & Saturday) from Kota Kinabalu to Papar, year round. Lasting approximately 4 hours, passengers experience the lush landscape of the coastal and rural regions of Sabah. A typical ‘tiffin’ colonial lunch will be served on the return trip.

Full-Day Tour Itineraries

Kudat Rungus Longhouse (Tip of Borneo) - 8 hrs (L)

At 0730 hrs pick up from City Hotel. It will take about 3 hours to Kudat Town, passing by several oil palm plantations where you can have a better view of the golden fruit of Malaysia. En-route, stop by at Kampung Gombizau to visit the Bee Farm and  Kampung Sumangkap to see the Gong Making Factory. A further 15 minutes brings you to the Kampung Bavabgazo Rungus Longhouse. Your guide will tell you all about the Rungus people and their legends and traditions. A local-style lunch is served at the long house. After lunch you can relax and enjoy the cultural show. Then drive  for 50 minutes on gravel roads, passing by traditional villages and coconut groves, to Tanjung Sempang Mengayau, known as the ‘Tip of Borneo”. Upon arrival, witness the spectacular, breathtaking view where the South China Sea and Sulu Sea meet. Return to Kota Kinabalu in the late afternoon.

Kinabalu Park Tour World Heritage 7-8 hrs

At 0730 hrs depart from your city hotel. The journey to Kinabalu National Park takes about 1.5 hours through scenic countryside and beautiful mountain range. On the way, stop by at the Nabalu Fruit Market to buy some fresh fruit and souvenirs. Upon arrival at the park, follow the Park Naturalist on a guided walk to experience the various wonders of the park. Visit the Mount Kinabalu Botanical Garden to view the fascinating species of flora from all over the park. After lunch at a local restaurant, visit the Exhibition Hall or check-out the audio-visual shows featuring the rare flora and fauna found in the park. Transfer back to Kota Kinabalu in the afternoon. Note: the park is at an altitude of 1800-2000 metres and can get quite cool. You may wish to bring a light jacket or sweater.

Pulau Tiga Survivor Island - 8 hrs (L)

At 0700 hrs, pick up from hotel and transfer to Jesselton Point Jetty. After registration, at 0800hrs board the speed boat or catamaran (mandatory life jacket provided). The boat ride will take about 2 hours. En-route, stop by at Pulau Kalampunian Damit or Snake Island for a visit. Enjoy fishing for your lunch from the boat then disembark at Pulau Tiga, widely known as Survivor Island. On the island, you are free at your own leisure. You may go to swimming, snorkeling or just relax at the beach. Enjoy a barbecue lunch at our base camp and relax afterwards, then take a guided walk to the mud volcano and soak yourself in the mud which is invigorating for your skin. Return to the beach area to wash off the mud. At 1600hrs, return by boat to Jesselton Point Jetty. Around 1800hrs, transfer back to your hotel.

Leisure Diving (Tunku Abdul Rahman) Park - Full Day

Pick up from your city hotel at 0930 hrs to KK Jetty. Depart for Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park for the first dive at not more than 60 feet deep for about 40 minutes and discover the beauty of the underwater world. Enjoy a spectacular close encounter by feeding the resident fish species. A PADI Certified Dive Master will accompany the divers. Return to Sapi Island beach for lunch. After lunch, depart by boat for the second dive which is approximately 50 feet in depth. Dive for around 40 minutes. Return to the beach for a rest and a shower. Later, depart for KK Jetty and back to your city hotel.

Island Hopping (2 Islands) - Full Day

At 0900 hrs, depart your city hotel and transfer to jetty for about 15-20 minutes boat ride to Manukan Island. This island is a snorkeling, diving and even jungle walking paradise. At 1130 hrs, board the boat and transfer to Mamutik or Sapi Island for a sumptuous BBQ lunch, then explore the island or relax on the beach. In the late afternoon, return to the mainland and transfer back to your city hotel.
