Balleh: Kapit Raft Safari

This is an extremely rigorous and demanding two-day rafting competition, which sees top rafters pit their physical and mental skills against the numerous rapids of a 50-kilometre stretch of the Baleh River.

The Raft Safari, which started in 1996 and usually takes place at the beginning of April, is more than just a challenging sporting event. As the competitors steer their rafts through the treacherous whitewater, they will -also witness the ethnic diversity and cultural heritage of the indigenous riverine communities. An overnight stay in a local longhouse provides competitors a once-in-a-lifetime insight into the lifestyle of the tribes that call the wild river their life-source and untamed rainforest their home.
