We offer a great selection of half-day and full-day tours from our home city of Kuching. The former seat of the White Rajahs is the gateway to Sarawak and the perfect base from which to explore the surrounding countryside, so why not start with a half-day city tour? You can also discover nearby national parks, nature reserves, longhouse communities or even spend a day on the water learning about the marine ecosystem. The tours described below are packed with fascinating activities and are full of local atmosphere and flavour – the perfect way to discover Sarawak at your own pace. They can also be combined for even more excitement and greater savings.

Half-Day Tour Itineraries

Kuching City Tour - 3 hrs

This tour departs at 9 am or 1.30 pm and offers a fascinating insight into Sarawak’s capital, the historic city of White Rajahs. The many places of interest include the Malay Village, the Cat Monument, the city’s oldest Chinese Temple, the City TowerChinatown, the Kuching Old Mosque and the world-famous Sarawak Museum.

Semenggoh Orangutan Centre - 3 hrs

This tour departs at 08.15  or 14.00 for Semenggoh Wildlife Centre to observe the semi-wild orangutans during feeding time. The centre rehabilitated illegally captured and orphaned orangutans for over 30 years, but nowadays it’s an orangutan research centre with a population of almost 30 rehabilitated and locally born orangutans who roam freely in the forest reserve.

Sarawak Cultural Village - 4 hrs

Departing Kuching at 8.30 am or 1.30 pm, this tour offers a unique opportunity to “see Sarawak in half a day”. Just half an hour from Kuching, in the foothills of Mount Santubong, is the world-famous Sarawak Cultural Village, a multiple award winning  “Living Museum”.  The village is made up of authentic replica houses complete with residents who portray and interpret the cultures and lifestyles of Sarawak’s many ethnic groups. Try your hand at blowpipe shooting or top spinning, and be entertained by breathtaking cultural dance and music performances in the village’s own theatre.

Annah Rais Bidayuh Longhouse - 4 hrs

Depart Kuching 8.30 am or 1.30 pm to visit Annah Rais, a 45 minute drive past padi fields and pepper gardens. This is one of the few surviving Bidayuh (formerly Land Dayak) longhouses, built almost entirely out of bamboo. The local people still practice many ancient traditions, including the brewing of excellent tuak (local wine). Take a guided tour of the longhouse to meet the villagers, experience their way of life and learn about local culture.

Jong's Crocodile Farm & Mini-Zoo - 4 hrs

Depart Kuching at 9 am or 2 pm for the first and largest captive crocodile breeding farm in Malaysia. The main attraction is feeding time (11 am and 3 pm), when these huge reptiles leap out of the water to snatch their meals. The adjacent mini-zoo is home to monkeys, leopard-cats, sun bears, bearcats, civets, barking deer, sambar deer, turtles, pythons and even hornbills. The Arapaima Pond features huge specimens of the world’s largest freshwater fish.

Fairy & Wind Caves - 4 hrs

Depart Kuching 8.30 am or 1.30 pm to visit these two fascinating caves. A 45-minute drive bring you to the Fairy Cave, whose unique rock formations are said to resemble various Chinese deities. The main cave chamber is dotted with small shrines to these deities. The nearby Wind Cave is a kilometre-long tubular limestone cave noted for its spectacular rock curtains and rich wildlife, with over 20 species of bats. Both can be viewed from the walkway running the length of the cave.

Matang Wildlife Centre - 4 hrs

Depart Kuching 9.00 am or 1.30 pm for Matang Wildlife Centre (45 mins), Sarawak’s principal rehabilitation centre for orangutans and other orphaned or illegally captured wildlife. Enjoy a briefing about the centre’s activities, witness young orangutans undergoing rehabilitation, and view the other residents, including sun bears, bear cats, civet cats, sambar deer, barking deer, porcupines, crocodiles, hornbills, brahminy kites and sea eagles.

Santubong Wildlife Cruise - 4 hrs

Depart Kuching at 4.00 pm for a 30 minute drive to the Santubong River to cruise the mangrove-lined rivers and estuaries of Kuching Wetlands National Park. Embark on a fascinating search for Irrawaddy dolphins, proboscis monkeys, crocodiles, silver-leaf monkeys, fireflies, long-tailed macaques, monitor lizards, egrets, white-bellied sea eagles and kingfishers. Kubah National Park – Frogging Tour - 5 Hrs

At 1730 hrs pick up from your hotel for Kubah National Park for frogging tour. Over 60 species of frogs are found at Kubah, including one of the smallest species of frog in the world – the Matang narrow mouth frog. A natural frog pond located close to the park HQ is one of the best places to see frogs in Sarawak.  Depart Kubah around 2200-2300 hours  andtransfer back to your hotel for overnight.

Full-Day Tour Itineraries

Bako National Park Day Trip - 7-8 hrs (L)

Depart at 8.30 for a day trip to fascinating Bako National Park. The journey is 35 minutes to Bako Jetty, followed by a fascinating 20 minute boat ride. Your guide will lead you on one or two of the easier trails, exploring seven distinct plant ecosystems in search of the bizarre Proboscis Monkey and the dainty Silver Leaf Monkey, both unique to Borneo. A boat ride to view the famous Sea Stack is optional with a small additional charge, weather permitting. Lunch will be served in the park canteen. Return to hotel in the mid or late afternoon (depending on tide).

Gunung Gading National Park Day Trip - 7-8 hrs (L)

Depart Kuching at 8.30 for Gunung Gading National Park, about 90 minutes drive away. It is home to numerous rare plants including wild orchids and the spectacular rafflesia, the largest flower in the world. Take a guided walk to view rafflesia buds and flowers in bloom (if present). After lunch, stroll along one of the many trails to enjoy the pristine beauty of the rainforest and sparkling waterfalls. Depart back to Kuching mid-afternoon. Note: We should be able to confirm whether any rafflesia will be in bloom roughly 48 hours before departure. If you prefer not to visit if no flowers are in bloom, we will be pleased to offer an alternative itinerary to Kubah or Bako National Parks.

What's Included in the Price?

The tour price is based on a minimum of 2 persons travelling together on a twin-sharing basis unless otherwise indicated. Please enquire for detailed pricing, extensions and large group rates. Check the small print for our terms and conditions.

Tour Price Includes: 

  • Meals as indicated (L=lunch, D=dinner)
  • Transfers to/from Kuching city hotels (except Sunset River Cruise).
  • A RM25 surcharge is applicable for transfers to/from Damai hotels
  • All applicable entry fees for national parks, etc.
  • English/Malay-speaking tour guide.

Hints & Tips

  • Cover up or apply mosquito repellent to prevent getting bitten when outdoors..
  • Don’t wear your best shoes. If the water is low, you may get your feet wet if going to Bako.
  • Please carry small change and low value notes to buy drinks and souvenirs.
  • Don’t forget your swimwear if heading for the beach or jungle waterfalls.
  • If you are vegetarian/vegan or have any food allergies, please let us know when you book so we can make the necessary arrangements.
