The historic City of Kuching, the former seat of the White Rajahs, is the gateway to Sarawak and the perfect base for a brief trip to Borneo. Our special weekend itineraries are about getting the best out of a short visit, so we don’t drop you at your hotel at 5 pm and leave you to fend for yourself. We make sure there’s a couple of great evenings lined up for you too! The private guided tours described below are all about local atmosphere and flavour and are perfect for couples, families or small groups travelling from Peninsular Malaysia or Singapore. A Weekend in Kuching - 3 Days 2 Nights

This tour is designed for people who want to discover Sarawak in a single weekend, and is packed with experiences and activities that make the best use of your valuable time.

Day 1 – Friday – Arrival & Evening Sightseeing (D): Arrive at Kuching International Airport, meet and greet by our local representative then transfer to hotel. At 6 pm, meet your guide and stroll to the Kuching Waterfront to sip a cold drink and watch the sun set over Mount Serapi (weather permitting) or enjoy a pre-dinner cocktail. At 7 pm, proceed for a delicious Sarawak-style seafood dinner complete with local delicacies. After dinner, enjoy a glass or three of tuak (native rice wine – the first glass is on us) at a local Dayak bar with authentic tribal décor and atmosphere, while your guide regales you with tales from the days of the headhunters. Transfer back to hotel for overnight.

Day 2 – Saturday – Orang Utans – Bidayuh Longhouse – Sarawak Cultural Village (B L D): After breakfast at your hotel, depart at 08.15 for Semenggoh Wildlife Centre to observe the semi-wild orangutans during feeding time (09.00 – 10.00). Over 20 rehabilitated and locally born orangutans roam this forest reserve, and many still return for extra feeding at the stations. Continue through padi fields and pepper farms to Annah Rais, a well-preserved Bidayuh (Land Dayak) longhouse where you can view the longhouse way of life learn about tribal traditions and taboos. Return to Kuching for lunch at a local restaurant then drive to Sarawak Cultural Village (35 – 45 min) to tour the fascinating traditional houses and enjoy the colourful cultural performances. After leaving the village, stroll across the road to Damai Central, where you can enjoy a late afternoon swim (changing facilities available) or sip a sundowner on the Sunset Terrace. After sunset, enjoy an al-fresco seafood dinner by the bay at Buntal Seafood Village, then return to Kuching for overnight.

Day 3 – Sunday – Kuching City Tour & Departure (B): Pick up at 8.30 am to go for a spicy breakfast of Sarawak Laksa at one of Kuching’s most famous coffee shops (be prepared to wait a few minutes for a table). Then proceed or a 3-hour Kuching City Tour  visiting many places of interest, including the Malay Village, the Cat Monument, the city’s oldest Chinese Temple, the City T0werChinatown, the Kuching Old Mosque and the world-famous Sarawak Museum.  Return to hotel to freshen up, check out then transfer to the airport for your return flight.

A Weekend of Wildlife - 3 Days 2 Nights

This tour is designed for people who want discover Sarawak’s fascinating wildlife in a single weekend and is packed with wildlife experiences and activities that make the best use of your valuable time.

Day 1 – Friday – Arrival & Evening Sightseeing (D): Arrive at Kuching International Airport, meet and greet by our local representative then transfer to hotel. The journey is 35 minutes to Bako Jetty, followed by a fascinating 20 minute boat ride. Your guide will lead you on one or two of the easier trails, exploring seven distinct plant ecosystems in search of the bizarre Proboscis Monkey and the dainty Silver Leaf Monkey, both unique to Borneo. A boat ride to view the famous Sea Stack is optional with a small additional charge, weather permitting. Lunch will be served in the park canteen. Return to hotel in the mid or late afternoon (depending on tide). In the evening free at leisure to explore Kuching’s gastronomic delights.

Day 3 – Sunday – Orang Utan Centre – Bidayuh Longhouse – Departure (B): After breakfast, check out of your hotel and depart at 8.15 for Semenggoh Wildlife Centre to observe the semi-wild orangutans during feeding time (9.00-10.00). Over 20 rehabilitated and locally born orangutans roam this forest reserve, and many still return for extra feeding at the stations. Continue through padi fields and pepper farms to Annah Rais, a well-preserved Bidayuh  (Land Dayak) longhouse where you can view the longhouse way of life learn about tribal traditions and taboos. Depart the longhouse and transfer directly to Kuching International Airport for your return flight.

Kuching My Shopping Destination - 3 Days 2 Nights

This tour is designed for shopaholics who want to take advantage of the bargain prices for a huge variety of goods and produce in Sarawak and across the border in Indonesia.

Day 1 – Friday – Arrival: Arrive at Kuching International Airport, meet and greet by our local representative then transfer to hotel. Free at leisure, dinner by own arrangement.

Day 2 – Saturday – Orang Utans – Satok Market – Kek Lapis – Sarawak Cultural Village (B L): After breakfast at your hotel, depart at 08.15 for Semenggoh Wildlife Centre to observe the semi-wild orangutans during feeding time (09.00 – 10.00). Over 20 rehabilitated and locally born orangutans roam this forest reserve, and many still return for extra feeding at the stations. Visit a local Pottery Factory to view the potters at work and admire their unique wares. After an early lunch at a local restaurant, stop over at the Satok Market to shop for Sarawak’s famous salted fish – Ikan Terubok Masin – as well as the famous layer cakes or Kek Lapis.  Then drive to Sarawak Cultural Village to tour the fascinating traditional houses and enjoy a colourful 45-minute cultural performance in the mini-theatre. After leaving the village, return to Kuching for overnight, dinner by own arrangement.

Day 3 – Serikin Border Market Shopping – Departure (B, L): After breakfast, depart for a 1 ½ hour drive to Serikin Border Market, located on the Sarawak – Kalimantan border. This unique market is only open at weekends and traders from across the border and nearby areas come to offer their wares and products. Household items, souvenirs, handicraft, batik, rattan mat (tikar), curtains, handicrafts, vintage furniture, antiques and foods such as keropok, dried prawn and many more are offered at very affordable prices, with the opportunity to test your bargaining skills. After lunch at a local restaurant, transfer to Kuching International Airport for your flight home.

Hints & Tips

  • All accommodation is air conditioned, which usually takes care of mosquitoes. However, you should cover up or apply mosquito repellent to prevent getting bitten when outdoors, especially in Bako National Park.
  • Don’t wear your best shoes. If the water is low, you may get your feet wet if going to Bako.
  • It is extremely impolite to refuse any food or drink by waving it away. If you are full or don’t like the look of something, just touch the offered plate or glass with your fingers.
  • The rice wine (tuak) is usually stronger than it appears.
  • Please carry small change and low value notes to buy drinks and souvenirs.
  • If you are vegetarian/vegan or have any food allergies, please let us know when you book so we can make the necessary arrangements.
